I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Leibniz University Hannover and research group leader in the L3S Research Center. My research is centered around automated machine learning (AutoML) and related topics such as meta-learning, hyperparameter optimization, algorithm configuration and algorithm selection, as well as supervised learning methods. Specifically, I am interested in methods for multi-label classification. Beyond that, my research interests are widespread and include uncertainty quantification, evolutionary machine learning, machine learning in IT security, part of speech tagging, service-oriented software architectures, and (co-)active learning.Â
In the week of January 20-27, I will give an oral presentation on "HyperSHAP: Shapley Values and Interactions for Explaining Hyperparameter Optimization" at AAAI 2026 in Singapore.
Our paper "HyperSHAP: Shapley Values and Interactions for Explaining Hyperparameter Optimization" got accepted for an oral presentation at AAAI 2026. AAAI 2026 was extremely competitive with a total of 23,680 submitted papers and an overall acceptance rate of 17.6%.

From October 20 to 24, I was invited to the Shonan Seminar on "Advancing Automated Machine Learning". The seminar took place at the Shonan Village Center, a beautiful venue with Dagstuhl vibes in Japan.
I gave a lecture on Sustainable Automated Machine Learning at the EuADS Summer School "Automated Data Science", taking place 8th through 11th July 2025 in Luxembourg.
On 21st May I gave an invited talk about classical machine learning methods and the benefit of automated machine learning for practitioners at the Minds Mastering Machines conference in Karlsruhe.
On 3rd April, together with Marius Lindauer I gave an invited talk about AutoML at Hannover Messe in Hannover.
