I am a postdoctoral researcher at Leibniz University Hannover and research group leader in the L3S Research Center. My research lies at the intersection of automated machine learning (AutoML) and natural language processing (NLP). I develop methods to make modern language technologies, including large language models and foundation models more generally, more efficient, trustworthy, and accessible through principled automation. This encompasses hyperparameter optimization, meta-learning, algorithm configuration and selection, as well as automated model compression and parameter-efficient fine-tuning. I am equally interested in how large language models can serve as interfaces and tools within AutoML systems, for instance, by enabling users to express domain knowledge and optimization priors in natural language. My broader research interests include multi-label classification, uncertainty quantification, evolutionary machine learning, machine learning in IT security, explainability of automated processes, and interdisciplinary work connecting computational linguistics with machine learning.
